Part 3 of 6: Understanding Your Style - Filer or Piler

Learning to understand your style and the styles of those you dwell with will increase your success and bring more peace and joy during your organizing ventures. Which style are you?

Filer

  • You like things put away

  • You take time to put things in their place

  • You don’t like to see too much visual disorder

  • You work better with things in their place

  • You could be called a horizontal piler

  • You do well with organized systems

Piler

  • You leave things out

  • It’s too much hassle to put things away when you’re going to need them again anyway

  • Having lots of things out doesn’t bother you like it does some people

  • You pile things in stacks and the stacks make sense to you

  • Your stacks are your system

If you live with people who’s file or pile style is opposite to yours, then seeking some compromise and balance between these two styles, especially in common areas, will be helpful to increase harmony in the home.
