Cookies In A Jar- Oatmeal
Thinking ahead for the holidays is a way to provide homemade and probably less expensive gifts from the heart. I buy in bulk, and get two dozen 1-Quart canning jars with the lids and bands already on them. Look for those in summer clearance, after canning season ends.
My family absolutely loves getting these and I get a text, pictures, or a Facebook mention when they bake them. My daughters always call to say, “We’re making them!” My son’s girlfriend teases that he won’t share them with her, so next time, send two!
The recipe is for one jar, so just take your supplies and measuring cups, along with bulk ingredients, and go to town! You will need to PACK DOWN THE JAR AFTER EACH ADDITION, or it won’t all fit in there. Take this tip from someone who didn’t, the first time! You can substitute chocolate chips for raisins, if you like.
Make a little card, with these directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl cream together:
3/4 CUP SOFTENED BUTTER, 2 EGGS, 1 TEASPOON VANILLA.
ADD THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE JAR.
MIX UNTIL COMBINED. DRY BY HEAPING SPOONFULS
ONTO UNGREASED BAKING SHEET.
BAKE 10-12 MINUTES,
REMOVE TO COOLING RACKS TO FINISH BAKING.
Makes 2 dozen cookies.
Also, after the lids are on, cover with an 8” circle of fabric, and use some ribbon or raffia to tie it down, attaching the directions at the same time.
For each jar:
3/4 Cup White Sugar
3/4 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1 Cup Rolled Oats
1 1/2 Cups Flour
1 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Raisins
1 Cup Chopped Walnuts
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon, Optional
