ORGANIZING TIPS FOR A STRESS FREE MOVE

Part 2: Organizing Tips on Moving Day

Okay, so we’ve decluttered, packed, labeled and stored our boxes. Now it’s time to move!

Lifesaver Alert:

After we thought about the cost of a truck and mileage and remembered how stressful it was having to designate ONE DAY to load and unload the truck, we decided to invest in a POD.

They delivered the POD a week before our closing date so we had the luxury of taking a whole week to load the unit at our leisure.

We then scheduled pick up to be on the day we needed to be out of our house.

The company stored our loaded POD for us at their facility during that time.

Another cool thing is that after delivery at the new house, we were able to keep the POD for another week to slowly move everything into the new place. This made it so much more organized and stress free.

WHERE TO GET BOXES

We started collecting boxes a few weeks prior to packing. We stopped at the local ABC Liquors for the super sturdy smaller boxes that we stored our breakables in. I also asked my employer if I could have all of the boxes from supplies that were delivered to our company, which was a huge help. You may, however, end up having to purchase a stack at Lowe’s or Home Depot. The price on these are fairly reasonable. We purchased around 20 of these and they worked fantastic.

EASY PEASY CLOTHES MOVE

My girlfriend gave me this idea and it saved us a lot of time unpacking our clothes as well as saved us some boxes. Use the white garbage bags you purchased in your moving supplies and wrap them around your hanging clothes with the hangers sticking out of the top. You can take them from one closet to the next very easily. If any clothes fall off the hanger, the bag will prevent them from falling out.

We took all of our hanging clothes over in our car which made it a quick and easy move.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

Now this is something that I completely FAILED at. I forgot to do a change of address with the post office before we moved!

You should definitely fill their form out online PRIOR to your move, and just list the date you want to start forwarding your mail.

Another blunder I made was forgetting to call the utility company and have them shut the utilities off the day of closing.

P.S… Don’t forget you will need to eventually change your address with your bank, credit cards, driver’s license, etc. Preferably within the first month in your new home.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY

Moving can be one of the most stressful things we will ever do as a family, but it doesn’t have to be that way if you are ORGANIZIED.

I hope these tips will assist you in having a much smoother, stress free experience.

Happy Organizing!
